About Us
Jaldesa Community Conservancy was established in 2013 as a community-based organization dedicated to conserving wildlife, protecting natural resources, and improving the livelihoods of local communities. Since its establishment, the conservancy has played a vital role in promoting sustainable land management, environmental conservation, and peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife in the Marsabit landscape.
Water Sources
Jaldesa Community Conservancy is home to several permanent water sources, including boreholes, traditional Sagante singing wells, and water pans. These vital resources support local communities, livestock, and wildlife, making them essential for livelihoods, conservation, and sustainable development within the conservancy.
Vegitation and Habitat
Jaldesa Community Conservancy features diverse bushland and grassland ecosystems rich in indigenous plant species. The conservancy is home to a variety of Acacia, Grewia, Commiphora, Boswellia, Croton, and other native trees and shrubs that provide essential habitat, forage, and ecological benefits for wildlife, livestock, and local communities.
Rangelands/Grasslands
Jaldesa Community Conservancy’s rangelands support sustainable livestock production through traditional seasonal grazing practices. Pastoral communities move livestock between wet-season and dry-season grazing areas to optimize pasture and water use, reduce pressure on natural resources, and strengthen resilience to drought and climate variability.
Wildlife
Jaldesa Community Conservancy is home to diverse wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, gazelles, lions, leopards, zebras, kudus, and ostriches. As an important wildlife corridor linked to Marsabit National Park, the conservancy plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity, habitat connectivity, and the movement of wildlife across the wider ecosystem.
Physical Infrastructure
Jaldesa Community Conservancy is served by the Marsabit–Moyale highway, several feeder roads, and an airstrip at Kubi Boji near the conservancy headquarters. These transport networks enhance connectivity, support community access to services and grazing areas, and facilitate conservation and development activities across the conservancy.

The Board of Directors, led by the Chairperson and supported by Board Members, is responsible for guiding policy, ensuring good governance, and representing the interests of the community. Working alongside the Board is a dedicated team of conservancy staff who oversee the day-to-day operations, implement conservation initiatives, support sustainable rangeland management, and foster community development. Together, they play a vital role in advancing the conservancy’s mission of conserving natural resources while improving local livelihoods.
